the nature prescription
Charissa Hipp, CEO & Founder
Charissa Hipp is the founder of The Nature Prescription, a business specializing in “connecting people to places.” It combines her love of nature and the outdoors with her tourism marketing and writing background. Charissa has twenty years of experience in the travel and tourism industry, working for the National Park Service (NPS), the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area and tourism bureaus in both Washington and Frederick Counties (MD). Her time with the NPS sparked a lifelong love of parks, history and the outdoors.
Four years ago, following the birth of her third child, Charissa began offering copywriting and marketing services as an independent contractor. Around that same time she became an avid hiker and re-connected with nature, discovering firsthand the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of time in the outdoors. She has spent the past two years extensively reading and studying nature connection, and training to be a nature therapy guide.
In 2018, Charissa started the Maryland Chapter of Girls Who Hike, an all-female hiking group. She plans and leads monthly hikes and has grown the chapter to more than 1,600 members. Charissa is also an adjunct hiking instructor for Carroll Community College, where she offers mindfulness hikes and nature connection experiences. She is a regular contributor to Sass Magazine and an ambassador for Two Rivers Treads minimalist shoe store. Charissa resides in Williamsport, MD, with her husband and three children.
